 Murgh Channay, also known as Chicken Chana Curry, is a popular Pakistani and Indian dish that combines chicken (murgh) with chickpeas (channay) cooked in a flavorful gravy. It's a hearty and delicious dish that's often enjoyed with rice or flatbreads like naan or roti. Here's a basic recipe for making Murgh Channay.

Time required:  45 to 50 minutes

Serves 5-6

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken mix boti 750g
  2. Lemon juice 2 tbs
  3. Tandoori masala 1 & ½ tbs
  4. Namak (Salt) ½ tsp or to taste
  5. Adrak lehsun paste (Ginger garlic paste) 1 tbs
  6. Safed chana (Chickpeas) 1 Cup (boiled with salt)
  7. Chickpea water ¾ Cup
  8. Tamatar (Tomatoes) 2 medium
  9. Pyaz (Onion) fried ½ Cup
  10. Adrak (Ginger) 2-inch piece
  11. Lehsan (Garlic) 3-4 cloves
  12. Hari mirch (Green chillies) 3-4
  13. Cooking oil ½ Cup or as required
  14. Dahi (Yogurt) whisked ½ Cup
  15. Kashmiri lal mirch (Kashmiri red chilli) powder ½ tbs
  16. Dhania powder (Coriander powder) ½ tbs
  17. Garam masala powder ½ tsp
  18. Haldi powder (Turmeric powder) ½ tsp
  19. Safed chana (Chickpeas) 2 Cups (boiled with salt)
  20. Chickpea water 2 Cups
  21. Hari mirch (Green chillies) 5-6
  22. Kali mirch (Black pepper) crushed ½ tsp
  23. Namak (Salt) ½ tsp or to taste
  24. Zeera (Cumin seeds) roasted & crushed 1 tsp
  25. Tandoori masala 1 tbs
  26. Kasuri methi (Dried fenugreek leaves) ½ tbs
  27. Baking soda ¼ tsp
  28. Hara dhania (Fresh coriander) chopped 1-2 tbs
  29. Adrak (Ginger) julienne
  30. Hara dhania (Fresh coriander) chopped

Recipe:

  • Make cuts on chicken pieces.
  • In a bowl,add chicken,lemon juice,tandoori masala,salt,ginger garlic paste & mix well,cover & marinate for 30 minutes.
  • In a jug,add boiled chickpeas,chickpea water,blend well & set aside.
  • In a blender jug,add tomatoes,fried onion,ginger,garlic,green chillies,blend well & set aside.
  • In a pot,add cooking oil,marinated chicken,mix well & cook on medium flame for 5-6 minutes.
  • Now add blended tomato mixture,mix well & cook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Add yogurt,kashmiri red chilli powder,coriander powder,garam masala powder,turmeric powder & mix well,cover & cook on medium flame for 10-12 minutes.
  • Take out chicken pieces from gravy & set aside.
  • In remaining gravy,add boiled chickpeas & mix well.
  • Add chickpea water,blended chickpea paste & mix well.
  • Add green chillies,black pepper crushed,salt,cumin seeds,tandoori masala,dried fenugreek leaves, baking soda,fresh coriander & mix well,cover & cook on low flame until it thickens (8-10 minutes).
  • In a serving plate,tandoori chicken,channa gravy & garnish with ginger,fresh coriander & serve!
