Hummus is a Middle Eastern dish (spread, dip, or savory dish) also known as hommus or houmous. It is chickpeas blended with tahini. 

The hummus recipe is quite easy. Mashed Chickpeas are blended with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. Then garnished with some olive oil, fresh coriander, paprika powder, sesame seeds, mint leaves, and a few whole chickpeas. 

I'm going to make this recipe easier for you. How? By sharing the recipe for tahini also. It is also very easy as it requires only two ingredients.

Hummus is very healthy. As chickpeas are the main ingredients that have a good amount of vitamin B6, magnesium, dietary fiber, proteins, and other nutrients. Hummus has 170 calories per 100 grams. And very low-fat content. Wanna give this a try. 

You'll love to use this as a dip with your bread and crackers or as a spread or as a dressing.

Time required:

For tahini: 10 minutes.

Soaking chickpeas: overnight 

 For boiling chickpeas:30 to 40 

Hummus: 10 minutes 

Serves: 12 

Ingredients:

For tahini:

  1. Sesame seeds: 1 cup
  2. Olive oil:1/4 cup

For Hummus:

  1. Chickpeas boiled: 2 and a half cups 
  2. Tahini: we will prepare this also
  3. Olive oil:1/4 cup 
  4. Lemon juice: 2 to 3 tbsp
  5. Salt: 1 tbsp or to taste 
  6. Garlic cloves: 4 to 5
  7. Water: 3 to 4 tbsp 
  8. Olive oil, parsley, a few whole chickpeas, and paprika for garnishing. 

Preparation: 

  • Wash and soak chickpeas overnight or at least for 7 to 8 hours.
  • Boil chickpeas until done.
  • Roast 4 to 5 garlic cloves in 3/4 olive oil(so after roasting 1/2 cup olive oil remain) on low heat for 20 minutes. Garlic cloves should have a golden color. So roast them on low flame.
  • After roasting, take them out. Keep garlic cloves and olive oil separately for further use. Because we gonna use this oil in blending.

Recipe:

  • Firstly we prepare tahini.
  • Roast some sesame seeds in a dry pan for 4 minutes. Until they changed their color to light brown and are fragrant. 
  • Then transfer roasted sesame seeds to a blender and add olive oil. 
  • Blend well until it becomes a creamy paste.
  • Add boiled chickpeas, salt, lemon juice, roasted garlic, and 1/2 cup olive oil to this paste. And blend 
  • Blend well and scrape sides and mix in between.
  • Keep repeating until it gets creamy.
  • Mix again. And add water according to your desired consistency. Add 3 tbsp of water and blend.
  • Hummus is ready.

Garnishing:

  • Dish out in a plate or bowl. Make a spiral shape of hummus with a spoon.
  • Drizzle some olive oil, parsley, and paprika.

Serve with:

  • Serve with crackers, pita bread, and salads.

Store:

  • You can store hummus in the refrigerator in an airtight jar for 7 to 9 days.
